Florian Schmid received the 3rd Hatt-Bucher Prize for his master thesis written at the chair of Risk, Safety and Uncertainty Quantification. 

Two students graduated from the civil engineering Master's program after writing their Master thesis at the chair of Risk, Safety and Uncertainty Quantification.

Bruno Sudret teaches at the Zurich Summer School on Uncertainty Quantification for PDEs. Two courses on non-intrusive sparse polynomial chaos expansions, rare event simulation in UQ and sensitivity analysis are proposed, as well as an introduction to UQLab, the ETH platform for uncertainty quantification.

Prof. Bruno Sudret and Prof. Sankaran Mahadevan (Vanderbilt University, Nashville, USA) have been invited to coordinate a special issue of the journal of Reliability Engineering and System Safety as guest editors.

Stefano Marelli gives an invited lecture on "Metamodels for uncertainty quantification and structural reliability analysis" at the "1st International Workshop on Risk and Resilience of Industrial installations Against Natural Threats and Mitigation Strategies" during the ASME-Pressure Vessels and Piping Conference in Prague, July 19-20, 2018.

Stefano Marelli gives a talk entitled “Compressive polynomial chaos expansions for high-dimensional-output models” at the Workshop “The Next Generation of Surrogate Modelling in Environmental Science” organized by Lancaster University (Bailrigg, UK).

The Chair organises the 19th working conference of the IFIP Working Group 7.5 on Reliability and Optimization of Structural Systems (IFIP 2018). 

Bruno Sudret gives a talk entitled “Surrogate models for uncertainty quantification and reliability analysis” at the French Aerospace Lab (ONERA) at the Chatillon Campus (Paris, France).  

Damar Wicaksono joins the UQLab project team as of June 1^st, 2018. He will be in charge of developing the UQLab community of users and developers.

Bruno Sudret gives a talk entitled “Surrogate modelling for uncertainty quantification in engineering applications” at the seminar of the MATHICSE Group (Mathematics in Computational Science and Engineering) at the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL).

The SAMOS project subsidized by the Swiss National Science Foundation officially starts. The project aims at developing surrogate models for stochastic simulators, a class of engineering-oriented computational models whose output is a probability distribution (as opposed to deterministic simulators).

Joseph B. Nagel received the Swisscomas 2018 prize for his PhD thesis written at the chair of Risk, Safety and Uncertainty Quantification. 

Bruno Sudret gives a keynote lecture on “Recent developments in surrogate modelling for uncertainty quantification” at the ICVRAM-ISUMA-Uncertainties 2018 conference in Florianopolis, Brazil.

Bruno Sudret gives a talk entitled “Dimensionality reduction and surrogate modelling for high-dimensional UQ problems” at the Workshop “Reducing dimensions and cost for UQ in complex systems” organized by the Isaac Newton Institute (Cambridge, UK), March 5-9, 2018.
