Uncertainty quantification in flooding prevention project

As part of the EXAR project, uncertainty quantification techniques were used to gain insights into the effects uncertainties have on the hydrological model predictions. This is one of the first mentions of UQ in a federal office report in Switzerland.

The Extremhochwasser an der Aare (external page EXAR) project provides the knowledge necessary to assess hazards associated with extremely rare flooding events along the river Aare. Uncertainty quantification techniques such as surrogate modelling and sensitivity analysis were used with UQLab to assess the effects different roughness and topography resolutions have on the maximum water level. These insights can ultimately be used to define flooding hazard curves. For more information, have a look at the official external page report.
