Nora studied Mathematics with an emphasis on Numerical Mathematics at the University of Bonn, Germany, and obtained her Master's degree in 2016. During her studies, she was a research assistant for a project investigating the bending of martensite needles in shape memory materials, combining analytical derivations with numerical computations. In 2016, she moved to Zürich and worked in the Computational Science and Engineering Lab on a project about optimal sensor placement.
From 2018 to 2022, Nora was a PhD student at the Chair of Risk, Safety and Uncertainty Quantification, working in the SNF project "Surrogate modeling for stochastic simulators" (SAMOS) together with Xujia Zhu. During this time, she developed a novel surrogate for stochastic simulators, relying on the random function view of stochastic simulators, and performed an extensive literature review and benchmark for sparse regression-based polynomial chaos expansions.
Since November 2022, Nora is a post-doc at the Chair of Risk, Safety and Uncertainty Quantification. She develops and teaches the new first-semester Bachelor course "Programming for Engineers" together with Prof. Bruno Sudret. In Spring 2023, she teaches the interdisciplinary Master-level course "Uncertainty Quantification in Engineering".
